Mr. Anderson Mlabwa was employed by CRDB Bank Plc in Tanzania for over 29 years until his voluntary retirement in May 2019. 21 years of his employment were in management positions of Chief Credit Manager (1 year and 6 months), Director of Credit (17 years) and Director of Risk and Compliance (2 years and 3 months). As a Director since January, 2000, he was part of Senior Management team that was fully involved in developing and taking strategic decisions of the Bank and the group which enabled it to grow from a very small bank with total assets and loan portfolio of TZS 131 billion and TZS 34 billion respectively in December, 1999 to the country’s largest bank with total assets and loan portfolio of over TZS 6 trillion and TZS 3 trillion respectively by May, 2019.
Mr. Mlabwa has also served in other institutions as a member of the: Board of Trustees of the Presidential Trust Fund for Self-Reliance (PTF), Guidance Committee of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania Credit Guarantee Schemes, National Advisory Committee of the Coffee and Cotton Marketing Development Project, Board of Directors of the DANIDA funded Private Agricultural Sector Support (PASS), Presidential Commission that prepared an alternative scheme of loan financing to students of higher learning institutions, Committee appointed by the Government of Tanzania to develop alternative and sustainable financing schemes for higher education in Tanzania, one of the two members that represented Tanzania in the international Advisory Panel involved in the formation of the African Guarantee Fund and member of the Board of CRDB Bank Microfinance Service Company Limited.
Mr. Mlabwa holds an MBA Degree in Finance, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), BSc. Degree in Agriculture, Associateship Banking Diploma and International Certificate in Company Direction. Has also attended senior and executive international management training programmes at Chicago Booth School of Business, University of Chicago (USA); Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia (USA) and Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town (South Africa) as well as technical training programmes in advanced credit risk analysis and management at Citibank School of Banking, New York (USA); mineral project appraisal and finance at Imperial College London (UK); Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Risk Capital Finance at School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University, Washington DC (USA); Trade Finance, Euromoney Training, Nairobi (Kenya); and Project appraisal course based on World Bank format at International School of the USDA Graduate School, Washington DC (USA). He has also participated in several international study tours and conferences in respect of board governance, executive management, rural financing, digital financing, green climate financing, guarantee schemes, capital markets and presentations to share CRDB Bank loan financing experiences in Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, China, Denmark, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, UK, Uganda, UAE (Dubai) and USA.
Mr. Mlabwa has also presented papers to share CRDB Bank’s innovative and successful lending stories at international conferences organized by International Finance Corporation (IFC) Eastern Europe Region, Republic of Kazakhstan (2015), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Lisbon Portugal (2014) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) held in Washington DC, USA (2012).
